He's an old guy with very little patience but seems practical at times. He comes to court late and makes a courtroom of attorneys wait for his appearance. He makes up his mind on each case before he takes the bench - so just hope for the best. He's difficult to read. His clerks are very nice.

Like the other person said, he's old, but I like that. His calendar startes at 9:00 a.m., he does a lot of in chambers conferences, his clerk Ina is very nice, and his is practical with a good feel of right and wrong.

He will accomodate attorney's, I've seen him grant relief (473 motions) when they were not warranted, but I guess we all **** up at times, he is very considerate of scheduling issues and I've never seen him sanction anyone.

With discovery he is quick to suggest a discovery referee, especially if the case invovles litigants who can afford it. He will take one or two discovery motions, but if he sees a discovery war he wants out.

He will rule so no one wins too much before trial which is probably to encourage settlement. He is also very practical to figure out the real issues in the case to not waste everyone's time. I like him. I think he will also make a great rent a judge some day. :)

This judge will be a good ADR judge when he retires. He tries very hard to settle cases, he will act as the MSC judge in his own cases (with consent) and spend days trying to settle during his lunch and afternoons.

He has a civil law background, and played with the big boys as an attorney. He has a nice easy going manner, is practical, does not try to outmart you, and is just plain fair. Albeit, I have seen him deny motions to set aside defaults when I thought they should be granted, and set aside defaults that should be left alone. He does not push cases to completion very hard, you can get a trial continuance fairly easily, reopen discovery, etc. As said above, he has great staff, and they alway have a full candy dish for you to share.

PS He smokes :D
