When Lefkowitz was in Beverly Hills she was a bit unpredictable. Even a nut a times. She was not shy with sanctions and sometimes just did not seem to listen to what was going on. Though, she was always polite (to me). I had a case with her in Santa Monica and she seems to have her act together.

Linda K. Lefkowitz, West Dist. SM Courthouse Dept. A CivilShe's ok, she rules by the seat of her pants. She is pro active during a trial or contested hearing. I don't think she grasps sophisticated legal issues, but she has a good feeling for what is fair. So present your case simply, logically, act like an underdog who did everything he can to do the right thing, and she will help out.

She is approaching the Judicial burn out or "I'm sick of lousy inexperienced lawyers who waste our time" stage. She can let loose with her frustrations against counsel, but she still seems to like me, or maybe I'm just better then my opposition!

My wife and I had the misfortune of trying to get a restraining order before judge Lefkowitz. She REFUSED to hear or see the vast majority of evidence we brought of harassment, stalking, threats and even vandalism by the defendant. On what little evidence judge Lefkowitz bothered to listen to, she clearly failed to understand it. Even the bailiff and court reporter were visably shocked by the erroneous conclusions she reached. When we tried to put her on the right track she aggressively beat back any of our attempts to force her to stay in the courtroom for one more minute. Judge Lefkotwitz is either a moron or she has no interest in performing her obligatory duties. I know that some judges are not particularly intelligent or competent, but judge Lefkowitz, in my estimation, on a good day could only hope to reach up to that horrible level of performance. Avoid her like the plague on our judicial system that she is.

I had a case (bench trial) in front of her several years ago -- she was absolutely horrible: rude, nasty comments, refusing to abide by settled precedent, dismissing a witness without allowing for re-direct, etc. She didn't care about the facts, and didn't care that she was making a traumatic situation (for the plaintiff) worse by being such a bitch (something that more than one spectator commented on to me.)

I will never allow her to hear a case again, and I will celebrate the day that she either retires or gets transferred to Palmdale or Pomona.

I've had several cases with her and I can understand the comments. I'm sure I've lost more then I have won before her, both in SM and in BH, I understand why she slapped my clients.

I often tend to be at the edge with technical legal arguments, and she is a down the middle basic judge. But I consistently see that she has a good feel for what ultimatley is the right thing to do. Also, for the past year or two, I see her acting nicer and nicer, being more practical then ever before with law and motion issues. Last week I ended up in her court and she spent a lot of time on a discovery motion which was not even assigned to her. Now that I say that, she probably will completly screw my next client over; but over all I do trust her.

I've heard her in the courtroom. She doesn't seem to absorb controversial innuendo and spin control as fact even though an attorney might try it with her. Some judges can sense weirdness, some can't...she can. She definitely cares. Seems like she can see outside the box. Better hope she stays on the bench a little longer because her experience is, well, hard to come by. She is the Supervising Judge and she's in Santa Monica.
