Segal is a bit unusual but I like him. He is young and shows a typical young judge sense of humor which I find refreshing. Others may be offended by some of his constant chatter and little comments. But I think it's nice to have a judge before they burn out and become bitter. He is smart and gets a good feel for the cases. He is practical and seems to work up law and motion himself. Because he is smart, and with a civil big firm background, he can make the law fit the result he wants. But overall, what I have seen him do has a fair, or right outcome, even if he may not be following proceduere. Then again, perhaps his get to the chase, outcome oriented justice is what we need more of.
**I don't get his Clerk! I cannot figure her out. One minute she is a complete controlling bitch imposing wasted work upon the attorney, protecting "her judge", then 15 minutes later she is very practical and helpful. Perhaps it's the XY conflict she has from working out too much!
PS I suggest he watch what he says. Even if you are young, you are a judge and your words and actions greatly effect other's lives. I had a client in the court room once and my client freaked out when he started talking about being the youngest or newest judge in the district so he had to take a call from the presiding judge. Just take the call without the commentary. Would you want to see a surgeon who is new and must be the grunt of the other doctor's on staff?
